“[It’s like] something seen out of a movie.” That’s how first responders described the incident that took place at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Six people were inside a family home on Harvest Church Loop Road in Wolfe County when it exploded and caught fire, leaving 2 dead and 4 injured. Survivors were rushed to the hospital, while investigators cut through debris, water, and damage to find the 2 victims, who were identified on Monday, Nov. 25.
The victims were found in the basement of the home, according to Sgt. Bret Kirkland of the Kentucky State Police, who says it’s the first time he’s seen something like this in the area.
A video update from WKYT affirms 2 of 4 survivors are still in the hospital, with 1 of them in critical condition. According to Kirkland and ABC’s WHAS11.com, investigators believe the cause of the explosion is gas-related and are looking at nearby gas lines. A neighbor of the family reported seeing Creek Gas Company at the scene on Nov. 25.

Nearly four months before this horrific accident, a natural gas pipeline ruptured and exploded in nearby Lincoln County, killing 1 and injuring 5. The family of the victim is already filing a wrongful death lawsuit against Enbridge, the owner of the pipeline.
