Fight for Compensation with 40+ Years’ Combined Experience
When a person is injured in a fire or explosion by burn or smoke inhalation injuries, the impact on a victim's life can be dramatic. Recovery from a burn injury can be a long and painful ordeal that involves multiple reconstructive surgeries, extensive rehabilitation and permanent disfigurement. These physical challenges are compounded by the emotional hardships caused by the pain and disfigurement often caused by the burn injuries suffered in a fire. Approximately 2.5 million people suffer burn injuries each year, and 600,000 of those injuries are severe enough to necessitate medical attention.
Goeing Goeing & McQuinn PLLC has handled numerous cases involving burn injuries resulting from a fire. We put extensive experience and resources to work for you, in order to provide you with the best possible chance at maximum compensation.

Types of Burns and Other Fire-related Injuries
Burn injuries are classified into three categories based on the severity of the damage to the tissue of the body. The amount of compensation you may receive will take into account the type of burn sustained.
These categories are as follows:
- First-Degree Burn: These burns are the least severe and involve only injury to the outer surface of the skin, referred to as the epidermis. Although these burns are still painful, they generally will completely heal on their own within a relatively short period of time.
- Second-Degree Burns: These burns are more severe because not only the outer skin is damaged but also the layer beneath the surface, which is called the dermis. Second-degree burns are more serious and necessitate medical attention to ensure they do not become infected or develop into third-degree burns.
- Third-Degree Burns: A third-degree burn is the most severe burn because it is essentially a full thickness burn that impacts all of the layers of the skin and sometimes internal organs. The skin will be charred so these injuries require extensive treatment and take a prolonged period to heal. When a fire causes these burn injuries it can necessitate a long course of reconstructive surgeries and skin grafts to correct disfigurement and scars. Third-degree burns can also result in permanent disfigurement.
- Smoke Inhalation Injuries: These injuries are caused by breathing the super-heated gases that are created by fires. They can cause permanent respiratory damage and even wrongful death.
